32 artists 2 curators over 9 months culminating in 1 exhibition, publication and launch party; whilst this is the didactics of the Mentorship program to quantify it is far more elusive than that. From my own perspective it has been a dialogue with a dynamic creative, an opportunity for experimentation and immeasurably expansive. The Mentorship Program facilitates connectings with a community of artists and creatives through Newcastle Art Space. For each collaboration, the Mentor/Mentee is bound in a duo, and the connection or disconnection, harmony or discord is determined by the pair. Overwhelmingly, curiosity, learning, collaboration, support, exchange, appreciation and connection have underpinned the experience. The artists are working across a range of disciplines, with established to emerging voices in a relatively short time frame. With this opportunity, Newcastle Art Space positions itself as a centre for emerging artists in the Hunter Region, a place where risks, experimentation and collaboration are actively encouraged.
