About the Artist
Dane Tobias is a multi-media artist working with acrylic, watercolour and gouache painting, as well as pen and ink, and en plein air drawing in the community.
Dane has been a studio artist at Newcastle Art Space for five years. In 2018 he completed a residency with Newcastle Art Space, and in 2022 undertook a mentorship under established local artist Graham Wilson; which saw him create a series of works based on the “mid-century modern” style of housing popular during the 1950s and 1960s.
From the artist: "My artworks provide the viewer with artistic depictions of the man-made suburban environment through the use of a vibrant and expansive colour field and my highly intuitive eye for detail.
"I am influenced by the way that interior spaces are depicted in home decorating magazines as a fashionable and glamorous way of life, even though many people cannot get their interiors to look as good, and in doing so can err on the side of bad taste".
Dane is excited to share his experience of working as an artist with a disability and will lead this workshop in recognition of International Day of People with a Disability.
