Come and explore our studio artists' exhibition, pop-up shop and open artists studios, or and let your own creativity fly in a free art workshop with Nina Katzmarski. 

Studio Artists' Exhibition. 11am – 5pm

View the work of Newcastle Art Space studio artists in their showcase exhibition in the gallery. See and purchase fresh work by talented local artists. If you've been dreaming of starting your collection, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire your first artwork and support Newcastle talent.

Effjay's Pop-up Shop. 11am – 2pm  
Punk meets flouro pink in Effjay’s pop-up shop. NAS Studio Artist Frances Johnston (a.k.a. Effjay) is selling selected works to make way for her upcoming solo exhibition in 2022. 

Open Studios. Various Times

Take a peek inside the studios of working artists. A selection of Newcastle Art Space studio artists will open their studio doors to the public. Meet and talk to artists and see inside their fascinating workspaces. This is an opportunity to purchase work directly from artists. Opening times vary.  Enter through the gallery and pick up an Open Studios map.

Clay Room (previously Kara Wood Ceramics). 11am – 12.45pm

Explore Newcastle’s most exciting clay workshop and find out about classes and weekend workshops on offer. The Clay Room is housed at Newcastle Art Space and features a dedicated student workshop area that accommodates high-end, small student number lessons.  

 

Ali Sobel-Read. 11.30am – 3pm
Take a peek at new work and browse some lovely ceramics bargains at Ali’s open studio and seconds sale.

 

Annemarie Murland, Dan Nelson and Marilyn O’Brien. 11am – 5pm
Upstairs at Newcastle Art Space, three artists inhabit Studio 28, where they paint, draw, experiment, and work with mixed media and fibre. The trio will have works for sale.
 

Caroline Traill. 1 – 4pm

See inside Caroline's beautiful studio, where she will be exhibiting and selling drawings, paintings and prints.

James Rhodes. 11am – 5pm

James primarily works within the medium of photography, exploring photographic objects and what materiality means for the photographic practice. He will host a mini-exhibition/sale during the Open Studios.

Kathryn Taunton. 12 – 5pm
Kathryn will be selling some works on paper and canvas and, if we are lucky, some of her intriguing collages.


Paula Thistleton. 12 – 5pm

Paula is an emerging artist and student at the National Art School. Her work is colourful, political and raw. 

 

Birds Take Flight with Nina Katzmarski

Spend an afternoon with the amazing Nina Katzmarski delving into collage, colour and pattern to form part of a large installation of fantasy birds at our free community art-making workshop, Birds Take Flight.

Nina is an artist and highly-experienced community arts facilitator who will guide participants to create their own bird to to to add to our paste-up wall. 

 

This free workshop will be conducted in 30 minute sessions starting at 11.30am and finishing at 3:30pm. Please register for your preferred session time. Supported by City of Newcastle.
