Earlier this year I had the privilege of completing a residency at the Nobbys/Whibayganba headland lighthouse. During my residency I made a series of small spontaneous abstracted collages. The collages were a direct response to the experience of being immersed in the coastal landscape from the vantage point of the headland. When I returned to my studio, I used the collages as source material for a series of paintings on canvas. 'Headland 1' is a painting from that body of work.
