About the artwork:
“Tea Ceremony” reflects on the many women who have come to the Hunter from so many regions of the world, including a Japanese “war bride” my mother knew..The painting is built of many layers including tissue, antique Japanese script, gold leaf and shellac which reflects on the “layers” of roles many women have in their lives. Being about “tea”, it echoes the role “ a cup of tea” has played in bringing women together in mutual support.
