This is a painting of Kazz (Karen Crofts) at Nobby’s Beach-Whibayganba Lighthouse where I am currently doing an artist residency. Kazz is the Director of the Hunter Writers Centre and led the activation of the Lighthouse residencies – a COVID recovery initiative for arts and culture. Through Kazz’s leadership, the previously unused cottages at the Lighthouse are now available to artists, writers and musicians. Kazz is a beacon for Newcastle arts and culture after a stormy couple of years.
