Dani Marti

Sculpture, Installation and Video

Dani Marti

Born 1963, Barcelona, Spain. Lives and works between Newcastle and Barcelona.

Dani Marti is a Catalan–Australian artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, and video. His work explores the intersections of materiality, intimacy, and representation through a distinctive visual language that fuses minimalist form with emotional and ethical inquiry. Using industrial and domestic materials such as stainless steel, braided hose, climbing rope, scourers, and customised road reflectors, Marti transforms repetitive, tactile processes into meditations on desire, vulnerability, and the politics of visibility.

Marti studied tapestry under Ramon Gomis in Barcelona (1978–79) and later trained at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney (1990–91), and the Art Students League, New York (1991–92). He holds a Master of Arts in Sculpture and Installation from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales (2000), and a Master of Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art (2006).

His work has been exhibited widely in Australia and internationally, with solo exhibitions at Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney; ARC ONE Gallery, Melbourne; GAG Projects, Adelaide; Turner Galleries, Perth; and Galerie Lausberg, Düsseldorf. Institutional shows include the Gallery of South Australia, Australia, Newcastle Art Gallery, and Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

Marti’s works are held in major public and private collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, GoMA , Brisbane and Musac, Leon.
