The day was overcast as I made my trek up to Nobby's lighthouse to embrace the art residency I was undertaking. Poetry, paint, and photography were my focus, and as I ate my lunch, with my crow companion, I watched a tanker enter the harbour as the sun tried to break through the clouds. This painting epitomises the heart of Newcastle, our busy working harbour, engaging waterways, infrastructure, and coastal aesthetic. It spoke to me of the past, the present, and natural beauty.
