STUDIO 10 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE SPACE

ABOUT

Studio 10 at Newcastle Art Space is a recently renovated artist studio / workshop space available for flexible short-term rental for artists and creatives that are locally based or visiting the Hunter.
The space is suitable for artists working in all mediums and at all stages and backgrounds, whether aspiring, emerging or established.

 

We are now seeking expressions of interest for artists to use the space for a one-month period from June to November 2024.

Residency Fees

The Studio 10 Residency Space is primarily a fee-paying (self funded) residency opportunity however we hope to announce a one month sponsored placement for an emerging artist shortly. Artists that wish to be considered for this free placement can indicate this when completing the application form. 

Studio 10 is available for hire as either: 

  • A 4-week residency ($990 for 4 weeks incl GST) 

  • or for casual day hire: 9.30am - 4.30pm Wednesdays & Fridays ($220 / day incl GST & subject to availability) 

WHAT'S PROVIDED

The Residency Space

Studio 10 is a lockable partitioned space, approximately 36m2 in size. The space has plywood flooring and lots of natural light, an east-facing window, powerpoints and fluorescent lighting. There is a small storage cabinet but otherwise the studio is provided empty. Tables and chairs can be provided upon request.  
 

Opportunities to Create & Connect

Artists participating in the 4-week residency are offered: 

  • A casual “Meet & Greet” drop in event at the commencement of their residency to introduce the AiR artist to the other NAS studio artists and staff  

  • Promotion / documentation of their work via our website and Instagram page 

  • An invitation to exhibit work in a group exhibition of NAS Studio Artists at Newcastle Art Space the year after their residency

  • There is no expectation to resolve or exhibit work at the conclusion of the residency however if artists wish to host an open studio or another event during the residency please indicate this in your application form and we will try to accommodate.  

  • In addition to this we concurrently host a curated program of exhibitions and events in our gallery throughout the year and welcome our residency artists to get involved with our local community by attending or volunteering at these events.  

Communal Areas

The residency artist has access to communal spaces including a kitchenette with fridge, microwave and hot water urn, a communal sink for brush cleaning and toilets. There are approximately 20 other artists with permanent studio spaces on site at various times and three part-time staff on site during office hours (10am - 2pm Wednesday to Friday).

Access and Accessibility

Artists participating in a month-long residency will have 24/7 access to the space, however please be aware that the studio is a workspace only and no accommodation is provided on site. Artists are responsible for organising their own accommodation elsewhere for the duration of the residency.  

 

Casual / day hire will have access to the space between 9.30am to 4.30pm only 

 

Please note that there is a small step up to access studio 10. Wheelchair access can be accommodated. Please indicate in your submission form if this is required.
