The ocean, the moon, a surfboard, and its rider - these forms converge at Newcastle/Mulubinba Ocean Baths, one of the city’s most iconic and historic landmarks. I was drawn to the interplay between the structured order of the baths and their numbered starting blocks, in contrast to the organic backdrop of sea and sky. In this image, the surfer is not just a participant, but a kind of conduit between the realms of chaos and control, fluidity and form. He is the Moon Surfer.
