Portal I: Midweek Coals at Dusk, Dudley Beach
About the artwork:
The viewer is invited into a circle of women who gaze into glowing coals as the light fades over Awabakal country. This work reflects on the fundamental human need for connection, and in particular, celebrates the six-year long grass roots initiative by sisters Bron and Jo Lin to grow nature-connected community in Newcastle. A weekly open invitation to gather in the wild pockets of the city, spread by mouth and became a ritual known as Nature Arvos.

About the artist:
My ancestors migrated to the Hunter around 1900 and became part of the Greek Cafe movement, at one time boasting the first espresso machine in the Upper Hunter. I now call Newcastle home.
