Artist Name:
Paula Thistleton
Title:
Another day in Newy, honk if you care
About the artwork:
As a local artist, I am continually inspired by the people of Newcastle and the Hunter. Novacastrians are deeply engaged with the issues that shape our region, yet they are equally conscious of the international and global challenges that affect humanity as a whole. This blend of local commitment and global awareness gives our community a unique voice, one that is both grounded and expansive.
What moves me most is the respect with which people here listen, speak, and act. Diversity of opinion and experience is not only present but embraced, and this spirit of engagement reminds us that democracy and dialogue are living, breathing practices.
Through my art, I seek to celebrate this character of our community — reflective, politically engaged, and globally aware — while also reminding us not to take it for granted. To be a Novacastrian is to carry both the weight and the hope of our region, and to recognise that our voices matter in shaping the world we share.
