Artist Name:
Lisa Morris-Pate
Title:
getting there
About the artwork:

“Getting There” is a glimpse into my early morning walk along Hunter Street. Handstitched on silk, it explores the fragility and resilience of urban spaces, capturing the everyday beauty of the city through slow, deliberate craftsmanship. Each stitch is an act of attention, connecting place, history, and care.

Biography Lisa Morris- Pate
As a young child, Lisa excitedly stitched her first clumsy stitch. It was wonky and awkward—and not much has changed. The making of things with cloth, the scribbles and drawings of childhood, and the thrill of bashing nails into spare timber have long brought her both fascination and calm.
Taking inspiration from the natural world and the complexities of being human, Lisa creates layered, textured works featuring intricately woven elements. Her art captures both the beauty of life and landscape, and the confusion brought on by the constant change of modern life.
The exploration of change and growth is a recurring theme in her work. Her narratives often reference religion, trauma, control, and the extraordinary human capacity for healing, resilience, and transformation.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Lisa works across sculpture, painting, and mixed media. She is currently studying at Newcastle Art School.
