This painting celebrates the work of Helena and Harriet Scott, who moved to Ash Island in 1846 with their family. The sisters were most excellent natural history illustrators at a time when women were excluded from formal education. Their works remain as outstanding examples in their chosen field and is routinely referred to by contemporary students of natural history illustration.
