Artist Name:
Catherine Hickson
Title:
Port II
About the artwork:

Your Port, our community - Newcastle is a port city, a beautiful port city. As an observer of life and place I am drawn to the industrial forms along Newcastle Harbour. Every step reveals different angles of composition. I see patterns of symmetry and integration in the silos, bridges, boats and shadows as the light reflects the colours of steel, concrete and sky.

My painting practice is open and exploratory.
Working between figurative and abstract compositions of still life, interiors and landscape I am compelled by colour and form.
"My painting process begins with sketches and detailed drawing.
I really like the physical action of putting paint onto canvas using either a brush, palette knife, or my hands. After time I move into flow where I abandon ideas, concepts and plans and simply respond to what the painting needs.
Catherine has been exhibiting since 2005.
