Shonah Trescott
Multidisciplinary artist
Shonah Trescott (b. Maitland, NSW 1982) is a multidisciplinary artist working internationally. Her work focuses on the intersections of art and science with a particular interest in ecology, climate change, environmental politics, and decoloniality. Having lived and worked in Berlin, Germany, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and NYC, USA, her work is held in public museums, institutions, and private collections in Europe, the USA, Japan, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Returning to Australia in 2019, Shonah is now based in Maitland, NSW. Over the past 18 years, she has collaborated on projects in Germany, the Arctic, the USA, Puerto Rico, France, and Japan with institutions such as the Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg for Advanced Study, Umweltbundesamt (Environmental Protection Agency) in Germany, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, Dom Museum in Vienna, BMW Germany, and the New York City Department of Education. Her passion lies at the intersection of art and climate science, which led her to pilot an artist residency with the German Polar Institute in the high Arctic, where she lived and worked at the world’s most northerly international scientific base. Shonah has lectured at institutions and colleges in New York, Germany, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Dedicated to fostering connections with diverse communities, Shonah sees her role as both an artist and cultural worker. She is pursuing her PhD through Edith Cowan University, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
