Some pieces come easy, some do not. OCEAN is definitely the later.
My stylised wave fish forms have developed over many years. But, efforts to use these forms and driftwood in a sculpture never seemed to work to create what I imagined.
Late last year, we visited the McMichael Gallery in Toronto Canada to view their large collection of Inuit art. One artist, Billy Gauthier, impressed me with his use of circular lines. In Gauthier’s piece, DIVING CORMORANTS, I liked his use of curved antler to create circular lines around the sculpture to focus the viewer’s attention on the intimate details of the sculpture.
It was the element that had previously eluded me.
In OCEAN, undulating ribbons of jacaranda seaweed surround/encircle the wave fish completing the imagery seen in my mind’s eye.
