This work is a memory-map. It is a non-figurative response to a particular time and landscape where the emotional and physical memory of that event is brought together. Strength and fragility are demonstrated by the tough, malleable, but also vulnerable nature of paper. Thread and stitching are used to create marks which recall our movements across the landscape. Stitching and textiles bind us together in our shared experience of the land and the moment. Time is an important factor- stitching takes time and reflects the duration of the experience. Muted colour is used to represent the clouded and imprecise nature of memory, and the dark frame recalls the darkness all around. The irregular shape of the image refers to the uncertainty of the map; where is the edge of this map, this experience? What certainty remains of this shared experience that connected us over time and place?
