With bad blood at the forefront of most of my thoughts since being diagnosed with Leukemia, I thought it rather curious that I would be caring for this unusual pertinently named Black Bat Plant. A thoughtful gift, I was determined to bring it to fruition, but this Devils Flower incessantly failed to produce. Then just like that it showed itself and it was extraordinary. I immediately longed to be up close on a cellular level deep within all its sinewy, irregular, unearthly fragments. Working as always with 35mm Analogue film and utilising age old traditional developing techniques I focused intently on its creature like formation. What some might perceive as alien and a little peculiar, I thought magnificent. Was it my current emotional state that was swaying my idea of idealism? Probing whether the elements of something so stunning in its entirety, needed to be ideal and perfect within itself.
