The butterfly effect (as referred to in chaos theory) is the vulnerability of a deterministic nonlinear system, wherein small alterations have a significant impact. “Light Makes Dark” nods to this notion through the fall of light and how it drastically changes the overall perception of an object through its shadows. In the work’s physical state, the 360°- 3D form produces a perfect opportunity for a vast array of silhouettes to be created. The variables of light direction result in a multitude of interchangeable shadows thus a multitude of shapes onto the final piece. With this, the visual interpretation is altered and demonstrates the nature of cause and effect. The painted shadows mark a time stamp to how the sunlight fell when it was created.
