The Green Chair portrays the afterlife of household items: armchairs, mattresses, leather lounges and other discarded goods that become markers of how communities manage (or fail to manage) what they no longer want. The paintings assert that abandoned furniture on footpaths is not merely an aesthetic eyesore but evidence of limited disposal options, municipal neglect, and the economic and logistical choices people face.
Worn fabrics, discarded beer cans and sun-faded fabric register use, memory and displacement; light and colour reframe these objects as socially embarrassing material records of opportunism, rather than responsible disposal. If you are able to get a large item to the dump, there is a minimum fee of $50.00 – ironically echoing in the speed limit sign hiding in plain site.
