There was a time when you’d visit a library if you wanted solid information. Pre-computers, there you would find Dewey decimal cabinets full of reference cards which would direct you to the location of the books and resources you needed. Notwithstanding that history was written by the victors, you trusted the process and the outcomes. A fact was a fact – there it was in hard copy.

In our post-truth world, fuelled by fake news, populist politics and algorithmic echo-chambers, objective facts are being increasingly disputed on emotive grounds and opinions have polarised - sometimes into two contradictory ‘truths’. The pain experienced within families, communities and nations during the Voice referendum was a product of this manipulation and truth was its biggest casualty.
