'Scribbly Gum' is one piece of a series of work inspired by the concept of ‘Where the Eucalyptus meets the sea’. They are a consciously joyful celebration and abstraction of the colour, texture and forms of eucalyptus bark and a study in its similarity to patterns which repeat across all scales of nature, yet namely within aerial perspectives of waterways – a theme which Elise has extensively explored in the past.

The piece reflects a deep respect and awe for the natural world around us. The process of creating these pieces follows time spent in nature tapping into the sense of awe as an antidote to the grief of living during this time in history. The artwork reflects the emotional and intuitive creative response and the conscious focus on beauty and optimism, whilst capturing the layers and the ever present undercurrent of anguish.
