In ‘Poppies’, the vivid, unfurling forms of poppy flowers embody the resilience and transition from dormancy to growth. The work is a study in vibrant, unstoppable force—capturing the precise moment when potential breaks through into a fully realised existence.
These blooms serve as a reminder that nature’s beauty is a vital, grounding anchor in navigating life’s periods of uncertainty.
The painting emerged from a photograph I captured during a long Melbourne lockdown in 2021, yet its completion was prompted by a personal turning point this year following a sudden redundancy from my graphic design career.
I returned to this canvas to reconcile the quiet dreaming of the past with a new, emboldened artistic path. By focusing on the intricate patterns of the natural world, I have reclaimed a sense of joy and wonder, finding a necessary rhythm for regulation and calm. This piece stands as a testament to the idea that, even within a period of upheaval, one can choose to bloom.
