Being a painter and a sculptor, I have always been interested in that point where the two disciplines meet. Baroque is made from a found cardboard packaging component. The form of the piece with its 12 holes arranged in a grid and its depth appealed. The ragged condition added another delicious element. My challenge was to make it into an artwork without losing the materiality which is its innate quality. After months of consideration I decided gilding was my resolution. This process allowed me to make a strong attractive work, whilst retaining its materiality The title came about as I thought about it being a kind of 21st c interpretation of a Baroque overmantel mirror.
