This scene has so much drama in its contrasts. I can feel the tension of the storm approaching, dark clouds and streams of black rain visible over Bird Island. The sea is calm but there is a sense of pressure forming beneath the surface. Will it catch me sooner than expected? And yet, no. The exuberant ball of white light breaking over the stormy clouds is sending rays of hope, lining the clouds with a vibrant glow, bringing out the turquoise in the water and the whitest whitewash in the waves, which are still at this point gently lapping the shore. I am reminded of the mystical and prophetic paintings of William Blake.
