About the artwork:
Inspired by Robert Frost’s poem ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’, this work explores the quiet ephemerality of botanical life and the ways we as a society attempt to preserve that which cannot last. Each mono print captures the final moments of a plucked sprig or fallen leaf before they decay and mulch, becoming part of the earth they once rose from. The prints capture a moment in time, the end of a life cycle not often considered, despite the shared parallels with our own, traversing the uncomfortable yet necessary coexistence of life and death and the inevitability therein. In addition to the mono prints, there are two linocut embossings, leaves indented into the paper like footprints left behind from a life lived and observed.
