About the artwork:
This work is a reflection of my own small personal world. The objects, rituals, and moments that bring me comfort, pleasure, and a sense of beauty are often the subjects of my works. Oysters, cigarettes, checkered floors in old buildings, and all things red arranged like offerings. Having my own space is an achievement I am deeply proud of and after many years of turbulent and ever changing living arrangements I will never take that for granted. The work exists in the space between indulgence and aftermath, not condemning decadence, but finding something beautiful and human within it. A close friend and I use the phrase “glutton for pleasure” to describe the way we move through the world, creating beauty and atmosphere out of ordinary things, especially within our homes. This painting comes from that mindset and the desire to romanticise life, to surround ourselves with objects, colours, textures, and rituals that make living feel rich regardless of circumstance.
