My painting depicts the splash park at Maitland Pool during school term and mid-week, aka, the off-season. The water turned off and the tubular architecture standing like a proud and colourful art installation flanked by tall palms. The way the light caught the contours of the slide really had me stuck on the idea that this should become a painting. I like to paint the unexpected or unconventional and I do so as a way to arrange and process my own feelings about life. In comparison, I think we have all felt ourselves in an off-season of sorts at least once if not more in our lifetimes. And within that off-feeling, beauty can still be found and enjoyed if one takes the time to see.
