About the artwork:

The sculptural work 'Mama' is a contemporary deity. She invokes the relationship between artist and object through processes that echo birth and transformation. Referencing Palaeolithic Venus figures and arcane European symbolism, the work considers how the reproductive body has long been ritualised and objectified. What appears sacred often conceals the mechanisms of control.
Cast in plaster from a stitched canvas mould, the surface retains the imprint of cloth and red beeswax, bearing the trace of women’s labour and embodied knowledge passed through generations. Drawn from earlier works, the reworked mould becomes a vessel of memory. Each casting embeds remnants of what came before, echoing how personal and collective histories linger. 'Mama' resists idealised forms, instead embodying abject rupture and the fragile threshold between care and violence. The figure does not seek to transcend the body but to remain in it, heavy with the tension of being born and reborn.
