About the artwork:

My photographic portrait of place, “Entangled,” creates intimate engagements with both human and non-human ecologies through a practice that embraces patience and rejects the extractive tendencies of contemporary life. Inviting the photographed environment to collaborate with the image, the roll of exposed film was soaked in ocean water from the site for a week prior to developing. It was then processed with a coffee-based developer, using the same ocean water as the solvent. The image was screen-printed with charcoal and ash from the site onto paper handmade from foraged plant matter, recycled artworks, turmeric, and rainwater. Rather than focusing on technical precision, my interest lies in the organic, unexpected results that emerge—reflecting a collaboration with the spaces and materials I inhabit and promoting a more mindful existence, where observation and grounding are found and fostered.
