Tribute to Margaret Rose Illukol, the Hunter’s bravest woman.
About the artwork:
Margaret Rose Illukol survived as child in Uganda after a disfiguring hyena attack. Her family having to travel her 160km to get medical help and then 800km to Kampala Hospital where she had to undergo years of reconstructive surgeries. She was brought to Newcastle by the Rotary Club to undergo more than 30 surgeries and had a dream to become a nurse. A woman of faith and bravery. Becoming an Australian citizen and a nurse in 1996 at the John Hunter Hospital until her unfortunate death in 2015.
