Sunshine and Salt
About the artwork:
STATEMENT
Although having had a lifelong fear of drowning, it seems a little ironic that in recent years water has rescued me in many ways.
In 2020 when unable to walk after a back injury, swimming and walking in water were a lifeline back to health and mobility. Unable to work at my usual job, I began to paint. Swimming and painting became incredibly healing. Immersing myself in water, literally or through oil paint always brings me peace and joy.
For me this painting represents the healing power of sunshine, saltwater, and the positive effects of negative ions.
BIO
Belinda Dorey is an emerging artist who finds inspiration through her connection to the natural world. She works in oil and pastel, painting outdoors en plein air whenever possible. Growing up by Lake Macquarie and over two decades living on Kangaroo Island has shaped her reverence for the ocean and love of painting water.
Belinda has always found joy in creating art and in 2021 she took a leap of faith, leaving a career in nursing to paint full time. She is currently an exhibiting member of the artists’ run collective and gallery Make Space at the Station.
