Pablo Tapia

Pablo Tapia lives and works in Newcastle and was born in Chile. Making Newcastle his home since the 1990s his practice is grounded in years of study across classical painting traditions through to the approaches of the Australian Tonal painters.

His paintings shift between observation and imagination. They reflect his technical mastery through to his compassion for a shared humanity and interest in psychology and spirituality.

He says “For me painting is healing, nurturing and a potent tool of self-knowledge. Art is a personal language of feelings. Craftsmanship is the grammar which allows you to express those emotions and ideas effectively. Achieving technical mastery with an open heart is my purpose”.
