Hidden, Lurking is informed by Syann’s extensive field work in Rakhine State, Myanmar, where she worked for two years to monitor human rights violations in very remote displaced Rohingya communities for the United Nations. The work is based very loosely on the Buddhist Flag, a symbol that was much in evidence usually just prior to outbreaks of conflict. Despite the beauty of rice-paddy landscape along remote meandering riverbanks, unspeakable stories were being created every day. One could never be sure if/when something would erupt.
