I have a long-held fascination with Labyrinths and in particular the legendary labyrinth designed by Dedalus to house the Minotaur. Equally fascinating is the legend of the escape from Crete of Dedalus and his son Icarus using wings made by Dedalus. Despite his father's warning not to fly too high, Icarus, typical of any headstrong youth, disobeyed and paid the price when the sun melted the wax in his wings and he plunged to his death in the sea. Dedalus continued on his journey and arrived safely on the Greek mainland. I have depicted the moment of his arrival against the background of a stormy dawn.
