This work continues my exploration of interior space, the intersection of domestic textiles and architecture, the home and the house. Using the slow painstaking process of quilt construction, but rendered in translucent silk organza and resolved into a three dimensional form, fabric shifts into a space between the domestic and architectural, challenging our perceptions of both.
I'm deeply engaged with the paradoxical nature of home as both a deeply felt human experience and a fragile civilising construct. My practice explores the routines, rituals, social interactions and objects that signify home and tie us to place within architectural forms that we seldom control. When buildings themselves betray us with their vulnerability to fire, flood and ever-increasing prices, this work invites the viewer to think about the essence of home that prevails.
