This image was taken from my photographic series “Mums the word. Mumma-razzi”. A self portrait series where I explore being ever present but unseen in motherhood.

Usually, while capturing fleeting moments of my favourite subjects, I am on the other side of the camera. When reviewing photos I am often asked: “Mum, where were you???”

After being drawn to the ‘Hidden Mother’ photos of the Victorian Era, I decided to redirect the gaze onto maker and mother. Artist and subject merged.

In this work I juxtapose my original pink image with a cyanotype print to highlight the use of predetermined colours in gender stereotypes as well as to challenge the tradition of binary gender classification.
