Over the last couple of years I have enjoying doing a lot of linework in drawing and painting. In this painting I worked towards making the line work finer and more subtle.
The line work in my painting and my drawing represents the materialising of thought. The thought isn’t that of an individual, but represents an overarching held idea or belief held in a body of people. So immersed are we in their shaping, that we are often not aware of them and therefor they remain ‘untitled’. However, our realities are very strongly shaped by them as in their being the defining lines of materiality. In past paintings the lines have been quite strong as I was letting go of heavy ideas and beliefs culturally or socially held. As I aspire to consciously take on new beliefs, I tap into those beliefs held by the community body, that are more subtle and refined, like kindness and connection.
