About the artwork:

‘Soap Scum’ plays with the conventions of the still life genre, depicting inanimate everyday manmade and natural objects together in nonsensical harmony. The items here have been culled from areas of the home; my right AirPod, a once used bar of soap, an avocado past it’s prime and a rock from my landlord’s garden. Alone, these elements might seem quite insignificant or disgusting, but together through light and arrangement they strive to denote significance and ultimately, celebrate young Australian domestic life today. This image – taken in a share-house, documents the humorous nature and scarcity of living out of home. Each element aims to represent a facet of this lived period – some more literal than others. Offered interpretations include, technological dependence, self-care and the assumption of wasted time.
