Lelani (Lani) Jacobs
Tara Dever (Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council chief executive)
About the artwork:
Tara paints patterns as we speak. She tells of injustice and grief through generations. Her patterns later become this co-created artwork.
When Tara was 11, there was a girl in her class with a learning disability. The teacher made a point of picking this girl to read. It was humiliating. Tara decided to whisper the words to the girl, but was caught and given detention. She marched to the Principal’s office to make a complaint. Always a fearless, but gentle and kind fighter for the underdog.
