Newcastle Harbour is a gateway to the resource-rich Hunter Valley and northern NSW. With thousands of coal and trade vessels visiting the port each year, alongside ferries, tugboats, fishing trawlers and leisure craft, Newcastle Harbour is always a hive of activity. In my painting I wanted to give a sense of this dynamism, evoking a sense of movement and embodying the visual spectacle. To create a visual experience that transcends the representational and evokes a state of wonder.
