Artist Name:
Aleta Lederwasch
The Beautiful Margaret Olley
About the artwork:

On hearing of this prize I felt inspired to paint Margaret Olley, who loved and lived in Newcastle for many years. I could see Margaret amongst her flowers, treasures and brushes in warm effervescent hues.

It’s one of those works where little thought was involved; it was more of a dance with paint. Vibrant colours are gentled down into a wash, reflecting her strong passion for life and art, as well her gentleness, compassion and incredible generosity for which she is so dearly remembered for.
