Oxidized Hull
About the artwork:

I chose to revisit this memory in this painting. Fixated on the arch of a cargo ship’s hull as it enters or leaves Port. The bellowing sound of the horn, blasting my ear drums. In fact every time I blow over the top of a glass bottle, hitting that low note, I have that memory. For me the oxidized hull becomes a visual placard for landscape and how we manipulate it. For a moment the two pastel tones of the hull become this surreal steel landscape.

About the artist:

I remember coming to Newcastle for the first time. Driving over Stockton Bridge and seeing the merchant ships sitting precariously on the horizon line amongst a backdrop of Cumulus clouds.
