About the artwork:
Iconic Shift. In this work I have used fused two horizons. Firstly, the classic view of Newcastle as seen from Stockton. Then the canopy of the Costal Banksia, an iconic food source for the Yellow-tailed black Cockatoo. One icon is expanding with urban sprawl, yet the cockatoo's canopy gets smaller. These Cockatoos at Stockton were the inspiration for this work for Stockton itself is a sandbar sinking and eroding with the changing environment depicted by the dredge and ferry.
