ABOUT THE PRIZE
The Newcastle Emerging Art Prize, with its proud history, is now known as the Hunter Emerging Art Prize. And it's more than just a new name. The prize has broadened its scope in a few different ways.
Region-wide
We have allowed entries from throughout the Hunter for many years – but now the offer is wider and clearer. Emerging artists living in the local government areas of Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Mid Coast, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Singleton, Upper Hunter are welcome to enter.
Experimental
In partnership with our long-time collaborators, Octapod, we are proud to embrace experimental art, with introduction of a new prize category for 2021 valued at $1000.
Youth
To complement the Overall Prize, a new Youth Prize has also been added. This is a special prize made possible with support from the Squires family, in recognition of the late Jody Robinson’s phenomenal contribution to young artists and art education in the Hunter.
Online entry
Finally, the way to enter the prize has changed. All entries are now to be made online by submitting images and a statement about your work. Only finalists will be required to deliver their actual works to Newcastle Art Space for judging and exhibition.
