I practice what I call 'Contemporary Precisionism. This involves using painters masking tape to create clean sharp lines and edges, and the use of bold areas of colour. I have used a limited complementary palette of yellows and violets. The title of the work 'Port of Newcastle No 002. Detail No 002', refers to the original painting Port of Newcastle No 002, of which Detail No 002 is a cropped section of the original work, to create a semi-abstracted work that represents the dynamism and energy of the Port of Newcastle.
I wanted to celebrate an often maligned industry in Newcastle that contributes enormously to the area.
