The reference material was a photo taken on the beach, at Monkey Mia, in Western Australia.
After the popular feeding of the dolphins, a big tourist attraction, there is plenty of food leftover, in the water, for the hungry seabirds. These birds knew all about the regular feeding ritual and were there within minutes.
The painting depicts the scramble, which was taking to secure the best position for procuring the maximum food! The larger birds are trampling over the smaller ones, in their attempt to feed. Meanwhile late comers fly in to join the feast.
The painting, hopefully, reveals a sense of chaos, through the deafening bird calls from multiple species, all clamoring for attention. The assembly of birds, contrasts with the quiet serenity of the sea behind.
