This artwork explores the tension between control and chaos, the human desire to tame the natural world. A white ceramic vessel, adorned with traditional nature-inspired patterns, stands in contrast to wild, vine-like cords that twist and entangle it; Forming both its foundation and its constraint.
The surfaces shift between textures: hand-built sprigs and layered glazes create a tactile landscape that evokes rough, earthen rock and glossy, green algae glistening along waterways. These elements complement the fluid shape of the sculpture and suggest a living foundation, something organic and shifting, while the traditional vessel itself remains still and preserved. This juxtaposition invites reflection on cycles of growth, erosion, and transformation, asking whether we control nature, or build upon what is already moving beneath us. In this way, the work embodies the permanence and impermanence, the construction and decay as we live and our works become waste or history.
