Artist Statement – The Trouble with Connections
The Trouble with Connections explores the complexity of relationships and the fragile nature of human connectedness.
Composed in three separate parts, the work reflects the complications that arise from broken bonds. Each form stands as an individual entity, yet together they balance—precariously—as a whole.
The piece is built on a wire armature, layered with tissue paper and plaster, creating a textured surface where ink seeps into cracks and crevices. Textile fibres are woven and stitched across sections, suggesting a tentative effort to reconnect. This act of repair carries a personal narrative of rebuilding—drawing from my own experiences and evoking the influence of my grandmother. Her legacy is embedded in every thread, a symbolic gesture I include throughout my practice.
